Munich Airport

Re-Development of the Sound Identität

About the Customer

The Munich Airport „Franz Josef Strauß“ is the international commercial airport of the Bavarian capital Munich. In 2019, Munich Airport was one of the ten busiest aviation hubs in Europe with around 48 million passengers. The airport is an important hub especially for Lufthansa and its Star Alliance partners. Munich Airport replaced the former Munich-Riem Airport when it opened in 1992.

The Task

Munich Airport already had a branded sound logo at the start of the project.
However, it had some production flaws, resulting in unwanted vibrations coming from the loudspeakers in some application mediums (e.g. laptop startup).

In addition, further sound elements had to be created for various brand touchpoints, such as announcements, telephony and movie usage.

The Result

After a frequency check and subsequent adaptation of the sound logo, a general announcement chime and several branded music tracks were developed.

The chime in particular was specially adapted to the loudspeaker systems available in the various terminals together with the project managers.

One of the brand music tracks developed was also optimised for call center use.
